We all hope to never face an emergency at sea. However, if a crisis arises despite all precautions, knowing how to respond can significantly reduce its impact. The primary goal of the survival course is to explain and practice life-saving procedures that can make the difference between survival and disaster.
All larger vessels are required to carry life-saving equipment, including distress flares, life jackets, and life rafts. But how many of us would know how to use them effectively in an emergency? Do you know how to board a life raft correctly? Can you avoid drowning due to cold shock? Would you be able to swim back to your crew and stay afloat in an inflated life jacket while fully clothed? Do you know how to fire a distress flare for maximum visibility? These critical skills can mean the difference between safety and danger, protecting your crew, your vessel, and sometimes even saving lives.
In addition to RYA Sea Survival courses, we are also certified to conduct training for the World Sailing Offshore Personal Survival course. Upon completion, you will receive a certificate essential for participation in major regattas, such as the Rolex Middle Sea Race and similar offshore events.
RYA Sea Survival and RYA First Aid can be taken as a single long weekend: three days, both certificates and 10 % off – €500 for the pair. It also makes sense in content – Sea Survival covers getting out of the water and into the liferaft, first aid covers what comes straight after. Both courses are also required for a professional Commercial Endorsement. RYA First Aid
Yes. RYA Sea Survival takes one day, World Sailing Offshore Personal Survival two. The content largely overlaps, so you can get both certificates in one weekend.
For larger offshore races such as the Rolex Middle Sea Race, yes – you cannot register without it.
It is not a requirement, but we recommend it. Training takes place in a pool with a real liferaft and in a lifejacket, so you will be moving in the water.
For World Sailing Offshore Personal Survival, yes – it ends with a written test. RYA Sea Survival has no exam.
There is no age limit; given the content, we recommend 13 and over.
Yes. Sea Survival and First Aid can be combined into one long weekend – three days, both certificates and €500 for the pair instead of the full price. Dates where the two courses run back to back are in the calendar; if none suits you, get in touch and we will arrange it.
