Advanced course for experienced skippers who want to safely navigate coastal and offshore passages. Ideal for candidates for the practical Coastal Skipper course and the Yachtmaster Coastal or Yachtmaster Offshore exam.
The RYA Coastal Skipper / Yachtmaster Theory course is designed to give you the confidence and knowledge needed to plan longer passages, leading you to tranquil anchorages and distant landscapes. This course builds on RYA Day Skipper Theory and further develops all the essential skills a competent skipper must master, including navigation, meteorology, tidal calculations, pilotage, passage planning, electronic navigation techniques, and much more. This course is almost essential for candidates preparing for the Yachtmaster exam.
Graduates receive the RYA Coastal Skipper / Yachtmaster Theory. Participants already enrolled in our practical course are eligible for a 10% discount on this online course.
This course is offered in partnership with Sailing Courses Online. By enrolling, you agree to their terms and conditions, which can be found here: https://www.sailingcourseonline.co.uk/terms-conditions
Book the theory together with RYA Coastal Skipper, RYA Yachtmaster Coastal or RYA Yachtmaster Offshore and the theory course is 10 % cheaper. At these levels it pays off twice over: your time on board goes into passage planning and manoeuvres rather than catching up on navigation below deck. The theory course is not a requirement for the certificate – the knowledge is.
You study at your own pace, any time and anywhere. The course is about 40 hours of study.
Yes, practical course participants get 10 % off the theory.
The theory courses have no exam. Theory knowledge is, however, a condition for the certificate on the practical course, so it pays to have it before you step on board.
Tell us which courses you want to combine and we will apply the discount when you book. The order does not matter, but we recommend taking the theory before the practical course – that is the whole point of the discount.
